Marucci Sports, a Baton Rouge-based sports equipment company that specializes in producing baseball bats, recently announced its acquisition by Westport, Connecticut-based Compass Diversified Holdings. The companies reached a definitive agreement earlier this month that transfers ownership to Compass, which manages and owns several businesses across industries.
The transaction represents one of the largest in the sports equipment and Baton Rouge markets. It also represents the latest exit by a company in the ERG Enterprises portfolio.
Founded in 2009 by two former professional baseball players and a White House Press Secretary, Marucci has become one of the most recognizeable names in baseball and softball, while also becoming one of the fastest-growing companies in Baton Rouge, earning distinction as the city's "Company of the Year" in 2016.
Eric George, founder and CEO of ERG Enterprises, sees the sale as testament to a great business, one he believes his company recognized several years ago.
"We've believed in Marucci from Day One. Several factors told us we should invest in the company. We saw a business with great leadership, solid fundamentals, a sound business model, and a leading brand. We saw promise," says George. "And today, we feel validated by the recent sale. We congratulate the entire team at Marucci for their success and remarkable journey, which is just now beginning.”
Compass has announced that Marucci will remain headquarted in Baton Rouge under the oversight of its current leadership team.
