DDD Honors Orpheum Theater
The Downtown Development District (DDD) recently awarded the Orpheum Theater a 2016 Downtown NOLA Award. The honor was due to how the theater was “thoughtfully restored and re-opened almost a decade” after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and the levee failures. ERG Enterprises proudly serves as an owner and developer of this iconic and nearly a century old Beaux Arts theater situated in the heart of New Orleans downtown district.
Orpheum’s renovation took more than a year and costed approximately $13 million with the theater re-opening in August 2015 with a performance by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hosted by WDSU’s Camille Whitworth, the awards ceremony was held in the JW Marriot Hotel. In addition to the Orpheum, the DDD honored the Ace Hotel, Chris Reade/Look Far, Brenda Canada from the the New Orleans Business Alliance and the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk. The DDD also gave President’s Awards to Jarren Abron (Public Safety Ranger of the Year); Mike Thomas (Clean Team Member of the Year); and John Wild (NOPD Detail Officer of the Year).
ERG COO Barrett Cooper and Orpheum General Manager Kristin Shannon accepted the award on behalf of the Orpheum. Prior to the presentation, the DDD showed a short video on the theater. In the film, ERG Founder and CEO Dr. Eric George describes why the theater is one of the firm’s proudest developments.
“It’s the lifeblood; it’s the juice; the mojo of the state of Louisiana is the downtown district. And to have a little iconic piece of that–the Orpheum Theater be part of that–is a great honor.”
